What is SpyLocked?

SpyLocked (otherwise known as SpywareLocked) is promoted as a program that removes spyware threats. Actually it's a rogue antispyware program designed to scare people into downloading and buying their software to remove fake spyware threats. It does this by displaying alert messages which look like real Windows alert messages. The wording may vary a bit but will go something like “System has detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon to get rid of unwanted spyware by downloading an up-to-date anti-spyware solution”. These alert message pop-ups are produced by hidden adware (advertising software) which gets installed by a Trojan, which can infect the PC when the user downloads what he/she believes to be an audio or video codec required to access an audio or movie file. The Trojan is then free to download a load of other malicious programs which also bombard the user's PC with fake alerts and pop-up ads.
